Help your community meet God with their hands in dough.

Once you’ve discovered the joy and meaning that can be found in breadmaking, you can't help but share it. Now, with the Bake & Pray™ instructor training, you can bring this transformational practice to your own community. Perhaps you’ve attended an in-person retreat yourself. Or maybe the practice of sourdough over Lent was transformative for you.

If you find yourself eager to move deeper into the science of bread and the theology of baking, becoming a Bake & Pray™ instructor might be the perfect next step. You don’t need to be a professional baker — just a person who’s been impacted by Bake & Pray™ and wants to teach others how to find meaning with your hands in dough.

Next Cohort Begins October 19

Our digital cohorts run three times a year, with each cohort capped at just 30 participants.

Save your spot in our next cohort today!

What to Expect

In this 4-week digital instructor training, you’ll take a deep dive into the philosophy behind Bake & Pray™, learn how to structure a workshop, and receive practical tools to help you teach your first event. Tune into two live Zoom training sessions with Kendall Vanderslice (calls recorded for those who cannot attend live) and complete the rest of your training asynchronously each week at the time that works best for you. The training includes a combination of pre-recorded video lessons, written materials, downloadable PDFs, and engagement in our digital community.

Upon graduation from the course, you’ll be ready to teach the Bake & Pray™ method. Maintain your licensing through our monthly instructor community so that you can spread the joy of breadmaking in terms of liturgy rather than recipe, allowing the rhythms of rest and repetition to shape the baker as the baker shapes their bread.

Who should become a Bake & Pray™ instructor?

  • Anyone who has come to view baking bread as spiritual practice, not just physical sustenance

  • Anyone who desires to help their community discover God through everyday rhythms

  • Anyone who knows that hands-on learning opens doors that traditional teaching sometimes cannot

  • Professional bakers, advanced home bakers, teachers, missionaries, pastors, chaplains, therapists, nutritionists, and more!

What will I learn?

As you journey through the course, you’ll think through why and where you want to teach Bake & Pray™, discern how to price and structure your workshops, and learn more about your opportunities within the Bake & Pray™ brand.

I've signed up...what happens next?

The Bake & Pray™ instructor training is a 4-week asynchronous digital course. When you register for an upcoming cohort, expect to receive a confirmation email with more details. Once your cohort begins, you’ll access pre-recorded videos, live training sessions with Kendall, and downloadable resources for your own use and teaching.

Your purchase of the Bake & Pray™  instructor training also includes access to the Bake & Pray™ digital workshop. If you have not yet participated in a Bake & Pray™ workshop or retreat, you'll want to work your way through this course before the cohort begins. These materials will also provide a helpful refresher for those that have attended an event before!

After graduation, you will receive continued support through the Bake & Pray™ instructor digital community. We're here to support you throughout your teaching journey.

  • What are the requirements for becoming a Bake & Pray™ instructor?

No professional baking experience required (although pro bakers are of course welcome!). All that’s required is excitement about the Bake & Pray™ method and a willingness to adhere to this method in the workshops you’ll teach after becoming licensed.

  • How long will my instructor license last?

To keep your Bake & Pray™ license in good standing, you'll pay $35 per month in monthly licensing and membership fees. This includes permission to use the Bake & Pray™ brand, wholesale pricing on merchandise, and access to the instructor community where you'll receive teaching support and additional workshop materials.

  • What ongoing support will I receive as a Bake & Pray™ instructor?

As a licensed instructor in good standing, you'll have access to the Bake & Pray™ instructor digital community. Here you'll find ongoing support from fellow instructors, including your cohort leaders, as well as a monthly office hours call with Kendall Vanderslice.

  • Will I get to know other instructors?

Our goal is to foster rich community among our instructors around the world. The digital community will contain subgroups for church leaders, missionaries, professional bakers, and those who work in eating disorder recovery—these subgroups provide the space for you to connect with others who are teaching within your same niche.

  • Can I charge for my events?

Yes! Our hope is that you will use this training to invest in your community in whatever way makes sense for you. We want to empower you to launch your own workshop teaching business, to incorporate Bake & Pray™ retreats into your coaching work, or to integrate these lessons into your existing ministry.

  • Does this training include any business support?

The Bake & Pray™ instructor training includes an introductory lesson on how to price and book your events. If you'd like additional support in launching your business, you can book a coaching call with our course facilitator who is a trained small business consultant.
