Have you longed to bake golden, crusty sourdough..but been overwhelmed by where to begin? Maybe you've tried your hand before...and found yourself drowning in pungent starter and loaves that are more like a hockey puck than nutritious and delicious?

At Bake & Pray, we believe that learning to bake sourdough is a beautiful and humbling spiritual practice best explored in the season of Lent. This season is devoted to our recognition of our own human limitation, and nothing forces us to confront our limits like learning to work with sourdough!

Over the course of six weeks, we will walk with you through all the ups and downs of sourdough baking. We'll start on Ash Wednesday (February 10), reflecting on the fact it is from dust we come and to dust we will return, while stirring together dusty flour and water, then watching it bubble to new life.

By Easter, you will feel confident in the rhythms of your dough and find joy in sharing it with others!

The Lent Sourdough program includes:

  • a downloadable workbook of Scripture readings, prayers, reflection prompts, and podcast episodes to guide you through your Lenten journey
  • five live Zoom workshops with Kendall, each workshop will be offered at two different times to account for differing time zones and schedules, plus recorded for those who cannot attend live
  • a digital community to share your bread wins (and failures) and troubleshoot all your baking woes
  • a packet of dehydrated sourdough starter (register by January 27 to ensure yours arrives on time!)

How will I receive my purchase?

Your sourdough starter will arrive by mail in early February.

You will receive a downloadable PDF workbook on Sunday, February 7, along with access to our virtual Lent Sourdough community.

You will also receive an email 48 hours before each workshop with a Zoom link and reminder for how to prepare, and a follow-up email afterwards with a workshop recording.

How big of a time commitment is it?

You can choose how involved you'd like to be in the program!

Some participants choose to attend every workshop live, engage heavily in the group, and bake every recipe week by week. They love the communal experience.

Others choose a more relaxed pace, watching the recordings as they are able and only engaging in the group when they have a pressing question.

Your sourdough journey is yours and yours alone—you are welcome to join us no matter how much you are ready to engage! You'll retain access to the workshop recordings for a full year, so you can keep coming back as you need. It's sure to be a rich experience.

Can I do this with a group?

Yes! We love when churches, small groups, or groups of friends commit to the program together. Send us an email at info@bakeandpray.com and we'll provide you information on how to register and participate as a group.
